A Word From The Head, Rod Gilbert

The Class of 2012

May 1st was “College T-shirt Day” for the seniors at Regents.  At the close of the high school chapter in their lives, they were donning their college school colors in anticipation of the future.

In the next three weeks more information will be gained regarding college scholarships and final decisions.  We are waiting on some additional information regarding National Merit awards that we will share with you when it is finalized.  In the meantime, I want to give you a "sneak peak" as to how some of the students are being recognized by universities.

Approximately 75% of the senior class has currently been offered college scholarships, which totals over $5.3 million. They have been granted 223 College Acceptances from 69 different schools.

Below are some of the prestigious scholarships that have been awarded so far:

  • Alexandra Rossi - Souther Methodist University - Golf Scholarship

We have three students continuing athletics:

  • Lauren Malachowski - NCAA DIV I - Swimmer at Davidson
  • Alexandra Rossi - NCAA DIV I - Golfer at SMU
  • Kevin Sawyer - NAIA - Basketball at Rocky Mountain College

We have two performing arts students:

  • Lauren Martin - Theater at University of Texas Austin
  • Natalie Mays - Cello Performance at Belmont University

We have one student enrolled internationally:

  • Adam Rajguru - McGill University

We are so proud of the Class of 2012! After Friday they embark on finals and AP exams, followed by a week of Senior Thesis Presentations.  Please pray for these students and their parents as they take the final voyage of their senior year.

Library News

Calling ALL library books back!!!  In order to begin inventory, ALL library books need to be in the library by May 11th!  Thanks for "digging" for them under beds, your shelves and cars, lockers and desks.

2012 Knight of Arts
Saturday, May 5th – 5:30 – 7:00pm in the Regents gym - celebrating Regents 20th year. Join us for an evening of small bites and music as we honor the arts featuring singer/songwriter Jake Armerding. Tickets online $10 – RegentsSchool.com/KnightofArts

Sports Banquet
Saturday, May 12th

Please join us in honoring SOR student-athletes in basketball, soccer, swimming, baseball, golf, tennis and track on Saturday, May 12th at 6:00pm in the Regents Gymnasium.  Food will begin being served at 5:30pm.  Keynote speaker is Matt Carter, Senior Pastor from the Austin Stone Community Church.  Tickets are $12 (all attendees need to purchase a ticket) and includes a catered meal.  Tickets on sale in the Athletic Office May 1st-4th and May 7th-9th.  Attire is business casual.  NO TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER MAY 9th.

Knights Baseball Advances to Regionals
In front of the largest home crowd to see a Regents baseball game, the Knights defeated Bryan St. Joseph 10-3 in the area round of the TAPPS state playoffs. Will McDowell, Spencer Moore and Jason Chapman combined to shut the door on St Joseph offense, with Dawson Gamble and McCade Rice collecting 2 hits each. Rice also had 3 RBIs. Regents will face The Woodlands Christian on Saturday, time and location TBD. Check the website and look for flyers posted around the school on Thursday. Current record is 22-6.

Varsity Girls Golf Team Wins State Championship
The Varsity Girls Golf Team is the TAPPS 3A State Golf Champions! The tournament was held in Killeen on April 23-24. The team consisted of Alex Rossi, Margaret McCanse, Grace Carrier, and Courtney Cope.   In addition to the team being the state champions, the girls’ team had two of the top six individual golfers in the state with Margaret McCanse placing sixth and Alex Rossi winning the top medal. Margaret has now placed in the top nine golfers in the state for the last three years and this is Alex’s fourth time as the individual state champion. Congratulations to the Girls Golf Team on their team and individual accomplishments this year!

Varsity Boys Golf Team Places Seventh at State
The Varsity Boys Golf Team came in seventh at the TAPPS 3A State Golf Tournament held in Killeen on April 23-24. The team consisted of David Pruitt, Kevin Sawyer, Alex Wilder, and Cole Claunch. Congratulations to the Boys Golf Team on a great season!

Varsity Girls Tennis Team Places Third at State
The Varsity Girls Tennis Team placed third out of nineteen teams at the TAPPS 3A State Tennis Tournament held in Waco on April 25-26. The team consisted of Jessica Hardey (tied for 5th in singles), Caroline Lane (tied for 9th in singles) and the doubles team of Carly Smyrl and Morgan Wenske (tied for 3rd). Congratulations to the Girls Tennis Team on a great season!

Varsity Boys Tennis Team Places Eleventh at State
The Varsity Boys Tennis Team placed eleventh at the TAPPS 3A State Tennis Tournament held in Waco on April 25-26. The team consisted of Ben Adams (tied for 9th in singles) and the doubles team of Adam Rajguru and Douglas Steinman (tied for 5th). Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team on a great season!

Current 8th Grade Families - High School Sports 101
Wednesday, May 9th

Current 8th grade parents and 8th grade students should make plans to join us on Wed. May 9th from 7:30pm – 8:45pm in the gymnasium.  The transition from middle school sports into high school sports is not easy if you’re not prepared.  In an entertaining and fun way, join us to learn more about what expectations and commitments are like for kids and parents.  You’ll also have the opportunity to meet most of our Varsity Head Coaches in our fall, winter and spring sports. We’ll be giving away some cool Regents gear to those who know their stuff!

4-H Club - Last Meeting of the Year
Tuesday, May 8th, 3:30-4:30pm at the Regents Science and Nature Center. Join us to celebrate 2011-2012 and plan for 2012-2013. RPC Volunteer Thank You Coffee
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 16th at 8:00am and join us for a morning of fellowship as we honor YOU—our most beloved volunteers. EVERYONE is welcome to join us as we celebrate being a Regents’ volunteer.

We will also be welcoming in the new RPC leadership for 2012-2013: Staci Holstine and the incoming Chair-Elect (surprise!).

2012-13 Interest Indicator
Please prayerfully consider how you will invest your time in our school next year, check all areas of interest, and submit your form electronically www.regentsschool.com/rpcinterestindicator by May 18th.
This interest indicator will be an important resource for faculty and RPC committee chairs as they plan for next year.

RPC Inventory Closet
The end of the year is upon us, and we are wanting to collect any items that have been borrowed from the Closet in order to do a year-end inventory. Please make sure you have returned any items you may have used this year to the Closet asap.

RSNC News
Students and teachers alike greet May with a sense of anticipation. Of course, the end of the school year is coming soon but at the garden we anticipate harvest day.  We are spending some of our time reviewing the science lessons we’ve had this year and we are enjoying all of the activity that occurs in nature in the spring. Kindergarteners have been counting wildflowers (top count-48 different species).

First graders went on a frog hunt. Second graders are reviewing PARTS of the PLANT- DAH, DAH, DAAHHH! (Ask a 2nd grader).Third graders push to finish rock collections and the fourth graders have been beautifying the pond area. Soon we will harvest potatoes, onions, and garlic and green beans.

Moms Prayer
Monday, May 7th - join us for Mom's Prayer in Squires Hall at 8:00am.  Our attribute will be Attitude, and the verse will be Ephesians 4:22-24.   All moms are welcome as we pray over our community.  Please email Tracie Dickey at trdickey@austin.rr.com with any specific prayer requests you may have.

Dads Prayer
We will meet on Friday, May 10th, from 8:00 - 8:30am in the Library to pray. All dads welcome. We have a dads Bible study every Friday at 7:30am in the Library and will continue to have Dad's Prayer every other Friday at 8:00am.

RPC News
The RPC would like to thank Jill Adams and Dawn Black
for serving as the Prom Co-Chairs this year. It was a tremendous party, and we appreciate the help you gave to the Student Council and SOR students as they planned for this fun event!  

Shop The Armory
Only two Tuesdays left to shop at the Armory on Campus.  Our last Tuesday is May 8th.  You can shop online through May 31st.  Make sure you have all the Regents gear you need to make it through the summer!  Come see our NEW NIKE CAP and SHORTS.

School of Logic

Elective information
Rising 8th grade students will choose their electives on line on Tuesday, May 15th. Information about electives will be sent home on Monday, May 7th.

 

Field Trips

We are having fun on our trips! The 8th graders will return around 2pm on Thursday, May 3rd and the 7th graders will return later that same day somewhere between 5-6pm.

Congratulations to the SOL Band & Orchestra who both received Superior ratings and Best-in-Class awards for their performances at their Sound Waves music competition last Saturday in New Braunfels. Fantastic work Mr. Archer, Dr. Trittin, band and orchestra!

There is a rumor going around that there is no school for SOR on May 4th. UNTRUE! Only Logic is off that Friday because they will get in on Thursday from their class trips.
