Please be Respectful to our Neighbors!

We have again received very frustrated complaints from neighbors in Regent Hills relating to both parking and traffic flow.  If you must park on the street, please park only on the west side (mailbox side) of Travis Country Circle.  This affects traffic as well as child safety.  Keep your speed modest, and please be a courteous driver.
Sadly, Regents parents are getting a bad reputation with some neighbors.
Please assist in this growing urgency.  Thank you.

A Word from Mr. Gilbert ~

Grooms and Hughes Address Regents

Next week, two wonderful women will address our seniors during the Baccalaureate Service and the Commencement Exercises.  We are delighted that these two upstanding Christians are willing and able to serve our school in this way.  We look forward to hearing from Mary Jane Grooms and Karen Hughes.

Mary Jane Grooms is our Baccalaureate speaker next Friday night at Bethany Lutheran Church.  She and her husband, Greg, are directors of the Hill House Ministry located near the University of Texas campus downtown.  For years, Mary Jane has offered piercing discipleship to college students.  She has been a Regents mom and librarian, and is the mother of five children in college and beyond.  Her experience and accomplishments have aptly equipped her to address our seniors.

For those who are new to our school, the Baccalaureate Service is the event where the seniors receive a spiritual charge and mandate.  It is also the evening that the current junior class is issued their gold chapel stoles.  The soon-to-be graduates present the gold stoles to the rising senior class.  The stole is then worn each week in chapel.  It is a symbol of servant leadership.

Now, on to the Commencement Exercise.....

Karen Hughes is our 2009 Commencement Speaker.  She is Global Vice-Chair at the international public affairs agency Burson-Marsteller. A senior public relations strategist, she helps business leaders communicate effectively and build positive corporate reputations. With more than thirty years of experience in public policy and communications, she has worked as US Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Counselor and Director of Communications to former President and Texas Governor George W. Bush, and as the Executive Director of the Republican Party of Texas. She resides in Austin with husband Jerry Hughes and has two children.

Congratulations to the Class of 2009!!  Today they are touring Washington, DC.  Pray for their safe return next week.

And now the rest of the news ~

Because this is a major assignment in the School of Rhetoric for juniors happening this week, I thought our audience might be interested in reading this revealing article.  How well did they do?  You be the judge.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124155688466088871.html#printMode

Soar Into Summer Reading ‘09
Check the website and edline or click here for your K-12 Summer Reading Lists

Thank You Pidge and Russ Yeager
The 2008-09 school year has been full of many events, activities, and blessings due to the calm and steady leadership of Pidge Yeager as RPC Chair (husbands provide lots of unseen support!).  She pressed on during the hurricane of the Fall Family Social, a wet but FUN Reading Roundup Rodeo, and the thunderstorms of Grandparents' Day without a hitch, a smile on her face, trusting God all the way. What a great example she has been.  Many other weekly events happened behind the scenes.  Parents, students, teachers, and staff appreciate your hard work. Enjoy your summer!

Summer Care for Nature Center Animals
This is an invitation to be part of the team of families that care for the Nature Center animals. We are in need of families to provide care for the animals over the summer on a weekly basis. Training will be available for first time caregivers. The time commitment is approximately 30 minutes per day and will involve feeding and cleaning their stalls.  This is a great opportunity to experience God's creation in a wonderful setting with your kids. If you have any questions or would like a sign-up calendar, please email or call Bryce Alsup @ 970-4798 or balsup@sbcglobal.net.

RPC Chair
Thanks to all of you who have turned in the 2009-10 Interest Indicator.  This will help Lida Payne plan and prepare for the new school year.  Thank you to Lida for all the hours she has already dedicated to planning and preparing for upcoming RPC projects.  Yesterday morning at the RPC Thank You Coffee, Stacey Moore was announced as the RPC Chair-Elect. She will be prepping for her RPC chairmanship for the 2010-11 school year.

RPC Volunteers
Thank you to all parents who served as year-long volunteers this year, especially those who served from August to May: Homeroom Moms, Volunteer Receptionists, Cafe Cashiers and RPC Committee Chairs.  Your thousands of hours of service benefited staff, students and families. Your gifts are in the RPC drawer at the receptionist's desk. Please stop by and pick your favorite fruit of the Spirit you saw God grow in you this year!

Regents Baseball News
The Knights played an outstanding game on May 2nd against the O'Connell Cardinals of Galveston. A 2 run home run by English sparked the team, and Rogan continued his torrid hitting streak with 5 RBIs. In the end the Knights were on the wrong end of a 12-10 game.  Pitchers Rogan, Pawelka and Phillips hung in there, keeping the team in a position to win. The Knights ended their season District Co-champions with 10-9 record, playing some great, all around baseball.  Only losing 1 senior, with 7 players (Phillips, English, Rogan, Pawelka, Rice, Rice and Baughman) landing on first team All District, and 1 player on second team All District (Hajjar), next year will certainly build on the success of this team.
