Have a safe and happy summer ~ see you August 25th!

A Word From the Head

Godspeed to You and Yours

There is a word that I would like to place before you as we close out the 2008-2009 academic year. Godspeed to you and yours! I send you salutations as we finish the school year in a blaze, and we lunge into the summer months.

Godspeed is derived from the Middle English terms god speid, or God spede you. This 15th century phrase originally meant "God prosper you." Two dictionaries that I consulted defined the word Godspeed as "I wish you good fortune and prosperity as you enter a new adventure or journey."

A timely word - I can not think of one. (You Star Wars fans may appreciate my Yoda-grammar). Honestly, based on the last seven months in the United States, I cannot think of a better word. Godspeed! Godspeed!

To all parents, teachers, and students we say - Godspeed - as you enter your new adventures. Godspeed as you carry out the duties of family life and meet your obligations. Godspeed to you as you nurture your children and your siblings. Godspeed to you as you find a little respite in the summer months. Godspeed to you as you work by the toil of your hands as God gave you the ability to do so.

We pray that God will prosper you in all your prayers, actions, and adventures. And, we pray for safety and a quick return.

Thanks to everyone for making this a great year.

Regents Selected for Scholars Program

We are honored to announce that Regents has been selected to become a nominating school for the Morehead-Cain Scholars Program of the University of North Carolina. With fewer than 400 out-of-state nominating schools throughout the country, Regents School of Austin will be among a select group of only four in Austin.
The Morehead-Cain Scholars program is a unique, life-changing educational opportunity that combines a four-year undergraduate merit scholarship to the UNC at Chapel Hill with a lifelong challenge to make a difference in the world. The Program provides four summers of global travel and experiential learning, personal mentoring by experience staff advisors and accomplished Program Alumni, and a remarkable group of motivated Morehead-Cain peers.
Each year the RSA College Scholarship Nominating Committee will inform and nominate its most promising student leader about this great opportunity. The student must agree to accept the nomination, but is not required to attend UNC if admitted.

6th-8th Track Meet
Our 6th and 7th graders gave it their all and finished the season proud at the AIPL track meet last Saturday. Nathan Hornaday and Whit Barksdale's first event was the 1600M run, with Nathan coming in 2nd for the 1600M and 3rd for the 400M. Whit's first year with the track team showed a remarkable 1600M finish of 6:10. The morning proceeded with Catherine Walters competing in the 50M and 100M dash and placing 5th for the 400M. Shannon Smith and Rachel Holstine finished strong in the 100M dashes just before the rain hit. Bryson Thomas showed off his running long jump, while Nathan and Whit came in for a team tie on the high jump. Daniel Lopez placed 3rd in the shotput and showed his truly remarkable driven talent this year by improving his mile from a 9:34 to a 6:04. Congratulations to our 6th-8th track team for a great season.
