In a little over a week, we will celebrate the many accomplishments of our SOR student-athletes at our annual winter-spring sports banquet on May 9. This year, we are adding a special honor to those athletes who played multiple sports while still maintaining a solid GPA. In light of that award, here is an article that just came out about sport specialization, to which, as a school, we are philosophically opposed. https://www.youthletic.com/articles/research-proving-sport-specialization-increases-risk-of-overuse-injuries/

Elysa Wolf has been accepted to Calvin College, a top-ranked liberal arts college in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and intends to participate in swimming. Calvin College prepares students to be Christ’s agents of renewal in the world. The Calvin Knights compete in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division III. Both the men's and women's swim teams at Calvin won this year's conference championships, which was the 11th straight for the women and 2nd straight for the men, and it was the first time the same school won back to back titles in both genders. Elysa has been swimming for the Regents Knights all four years of high school. She earned a trip to the state meet every season in multiple events, and has earned two gold medals and two bronze medals at the state meets. She has earned All-State honors as well as Academic All-State honors. Congratulations Elysa!

Three Regents tennis players participated at the TAPPS 4A state tennis tournament held in Waco on April 15-16. The boy’s doubles team of Mac Lane and Henry Brown fought hard but were eliminated in the early rounds of the tournament after placing 2nd at the district tournament. Georgia Wright, the TAPPS 4A, District 3 champion, advanced through the first three rounds at the state tournament winning 36 games while only losing 6 to earn a spot in the state championship match. After a tough match, Georgia ended the season as the TAPPS 4A State Runner-Up. Congratulations on a great season!
