Gardens may be one of the best teaching tools of all time. They provide opportunities for body, soul, mind, and spirit.  It takes a good amount of physical activity to prepare and maintain a garden. Digging, bending, squatting, and moving loads of compost in wheelbarrows all add up to well-worked muscles and sweat on the brow (Gen. 3:19). Upon surveying the well-prepared garden soil, one is aware of a deep sense of accomplishment and anticipation of crops growing and producing fresh, delicious vegetables that will ultimately nourish the muscles which toiled in their behalf.
The mind is involved from the beginning, conceptualizing everything from garden layout to crop selection, seasonal constraints to critter protection. The garden lives first in the imagination of the gardener and is birthed with the cooperation of the body, mind and spirit.
The spirit feeds on the profound lessons God has built into His creation. A revelation of our connectedness with the world and the plan of the Father is constantly watered and fed as we spend time in the garden. When we are there, it is easier to sense the Father's presence and, for a moment, remember that time began in a garden. "Be still and know that I am God...Ps.46:10
